About Us

Who we are

A vibrant community of Chin Christians in Melbourne, united by faith in Jesus Christ and a heart for fellowship and service.

Our Story

The First Chin Church in Australia

In 1999, around twenty Chin believers arrived in Melbourne. Far from home, they did what came naturally — they gathered to worship God together. From that small act of faith, something extraordinary grew.

Today, Melbourne Chin Church (MCC) stands as the first established Chin church in Australia — a thriving family of believers, a beacon for the Chin diaspora, and a church actively planting new congregations and sending missionaries to Chin State, Burma.

Chin & Its People

A People of Faith & Resilience

The Chin people originate from the mountainous north-west of Myanmar — a land of deep valleys, ancient forests, and enduring spirit.

Over 90% of the Chin identify as Christian, a legacy stretching back to American Baptist mission work in the late 19th century. Churches have always been the heart of Chin community life — centres of worship, education, and belonging.

Today, approximately 10,000 Chin Australians call Melbourne home, supported by around 30 Chin churches and a network of community organisations that preserve culture and provide a path forward for new arrivals.
